About Us

ABOUT MY OCEAN JUNKIE FAMILY

Our family likes to shake things up.  In 2017, my husband and I moved our entire family of six from the suburbs of Northern California, to Carlsbad, San Diego to be near the beach. It was a group decision, and all six of us unanimously decided to make the leap into the unknown. My triplets were only nine, and my older daughter was 13 years old.

We needed a change. Being near the beach provided the outdoor lifestyle we were looking for. My family are all a bunch of ocean junkies. We cannot get enough of the ocean. To breathe the salt air. To see the ocean in all the colors of blue and green. To hear the waves crashing one after one like a sea symphony. To feel the salt on our skin. For ocean junkies, this is life.

This was the inspiration for creating a store that sold only ocean friendly products.

Fair Trade

If you appreciate unique, eco-friendly merchandise, you have found the right corner of the web. Ocean Junkies sells beautiful, artisan-made merchandise that is plastic-free, biodegradable, eco-friendly, and fairly traded.

The products in our Eco Shop have been sourced from local artisans and global fair trade markets. Ocean Junkies prides itself on finding quality products from around the globe that you cannot find anywhere else. Rather than being mass produced in a factory, many of our products are lovingly made on farms, in villages, and by small business owners who take their time individually handcrafting each item.

No my friends, you will not find any of Ocean Junkies’ merchandise in one of the five ocean garbage patches now or in 500 years from now! AND, to make your purchase even sweller (I can’t help myself – I love a play on words), 5% of the proceeds of all sales will go to the Surfrider Foundation.

WHAT IS AN OCEAN JUNKIE?

Ocean Junkies love life at the beach, whether we live at the beach or vacation in beach destinations. On the Ocean Junkies website, we will share secret spots, new and fabulous finds, and meet some innovative eco-friendly companies making it big around our very own ocean here in San Diego.

Healthy oceans sustain us and our planet.

Ocean Junkies is not just a website, it is a movement. It is a collective of human beings who are working toward the same goal: clean ocean living.

If you are looking for fun clean ocean living, you are in the right place.

This is not a place where you will ever feel guilty that you aren’t doing enough. Ocean Junkies are not interested in lecturing you about how you could be doing a better job to live greener. This is a place you can go to find amazing plastic-free, sustainable products, look at beautiful photography, and read inspiring stories.

The ocean is a magnificent ecosystem of life that sustains us all.

How It Works

No Plastic

If we as a global society do not change our plastic production, plastic pollution in the ocean will outweigh fish by 2050. Plastics comprise up to 90% of floating marine debris. At Ocean Junkies, none of our products contain plastics, unless it’s been upcycled or recycled. Why? Because plastic never biodegrades. It only breaks up over the course of centuries into microplastics that pollute our oceans and lakes. Instead of plastic, our products are made using natural wood, stone, 100% cotton, and recycled materials that biodegrade.

Carefully Curated

It is easy to find wonderful products from companies and individual artisan creating innovative and beautiful merchandise. A more challenging task is finding unique merchandise that has been researched and carefully selected based on biodegradable materials and eco-friendly company practices. At Ocean Junkies, we have done the work for you, so now you can make your purchase with confidence knowing  that you are keeping the oceans clean.
